"…An' I think the creepiest part is how he's started talkin' like the head."

"Whaddaya mean?"

"You ain't noticed it? Gaddamn, Billy, he's speakin' a lot more… a lot more-"

"Eloquently?"

"Yeah! A lot more- Mister Dante!"

Indeed, it was Abraham Dante who walked through the door and interrupted the conversation, suggesting a word to describe himself before the two fools used something less… tactful. William Goldthwait and Austin Jones may have been his closest lieutenants in industry before the Change, but the Second Voice inside his head could barely tolerate the rambunctious buffoons.

Abraham Dante, now Scorponok, strode purposefully across the red carpet and placed his knuckles on the large mahogany conference table. Someday he would be issuing decrees from a hallway grander than this hovel, which was only the best this planet could offer. He looked intently at his underlings. "Mister Goldthwait, Mister Jones, I suggest you not make light of my changes. I have bettered myself, achieved the next level of evolution for not one, but two species. Certainly that is nothing to scoff at. Perhaps someday you will have the privilege of also ascending, should you serve the Machination Empire with the same proficiency you served Epsilon Holdings."

The idea made both humans squirm in their suits. William fiddled with his gold and turquoise belt buckle; Austin removed his cowboy hat and began to fan himself with it. "Yessir, Mister Dante," Austin said unenthusiastically.

The fools. They could not comprehend the power he offered them.

Scorponok stood back up and folded his hands. Such fragile instruments, these fingers. Dante could almost feel his claws in an aura around his fleshy vessel. "Now, how do our plans proceed?"

"We've, ah, located the rogue unit," Goldthwait spoke up, swiveling his laptop around and displaying a dot on the map that represented the GPS signal of the stolen Headmaster body. "You want us to send Drake's guys to pick 'im up?"

Dante pondered for a second – which was all he needed. Truly a marvel was having two minds. "Negative," he answered. "So long as Sunstreaker mistakenly believes he has hope for salvation, he will be lax in his defenses, less resistant to the minds of those under our employ. Let O'Nion have his wild goose chase. Send a false lead his way now and then."

"Alrighty."

"Anything else?"

"Ah, no sir, nothing important," Austin said.

"I don't suppose you're still up for the big hunting trip this Saturday?" Billy asked tentatively.

Scorponok scowled at the pair. "I have more important things to attend to," he sneered. "As do you."

"But boss, we've been goin' every year for the past fifteen years!"

"We said No!" Dante nearly shouted, his drawl becoming momentarily more pronounced. "Now get!"

As the two men hastily retreated, Dante forced himself to forget them. He closed his eyes, thinking back millions of years, to the memories of one of his halves. Scorponok had once been a weakling, a nobody scientist that everyone ignored despite his intellect. Even building himself into a more prominent body had done little to gain anybody's attention, until the war began. And even then, he was wanted for his body, not his mind. But that power had given him a taste. He recalled being awed by his own power, but also knowing he could have more. Evolution had become a lifelong goal, a road that lead him here, one with Abraham Dante. And whatever self-doubts he once had were gone.

"Decepticon superiority and Texan hubris are a dangerous combination," he whispered to himself. "But We wouldn't have it any other way."
My entry for the May IDW writing competition - the theme being "Misused Cybertronian Technology." I tried all month to think of something, then finally just gave up last Monday... then the idea for this popped into my head yesterday and I got it in within the last 24 hours before the deadline!

...Well, it was exciting to me, at least.

Marvel Scorponok is one of my all-time favorite Transformers, because of his doubts and fears, a truly three-dimenional, interesting character. And yet, IDW Scorponok was a generic monologue-happy overlord... I wanted to write something that would bridge the discrepancy between the two, give IDW Scorponok some character depth.

How did Scorponok and Dante put it? "A new lease for life"?
I wonder what was Dante's problem before he binary bonded with Scorponok.
