It was definitely worth going to. I stayed with and her family--and doesn't she look awesome in this purple coat I helped her pick out?
It had its highs and lows--the biggest low being pulling a calf muscle and having to stay in on Saturday because my foot was killing me--and whoo doggy did I have a limp on Sunday, but dammed if I was going to miss two days of con, especially the best day. So I didn't get to do Nightwing this year, which is just as well because I had accidentally left my gauntlets at home. Sundays are always good for me. The last day is when vendors are most willing to haggle and sell at discount rather than pack all that stuff back up. The closer to the end of the day, the better the deals you get. I managed to get a discount off every one of my major purchases at con this year.
But comicon isn't just about buying stuff. The legendary and I represented Transformers in the Transformers vs. GI Joe debate panel. The Joes argued that their franchise is the "big brother" of Transformers, but doesn't get the respect it deserves. Speaking as a firstborn child, I pointed out that firstborns are like the first pancake of the morning--it's the one that gets thrown away, the practice pancake/child/franchise for the perfected younger ones. But what really one the panel was when I pointed out that G.I.Joes are the Village People of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Later that day, I won first place in a Transformers trivia contest. It's like my whole life was in preparation for that moment. Most dramatic moment was when I had to name all six vehicles that the Constructicons turned into... for 1000 points... took me about a minute to name them all, with some choking and panicking... but I got it. Won myself a collection of Transformers art prints and a $25 gift certificate to the toy shop that sponsored the game. Ironically, on my way to the panel, I had stopped at their booth and bought the figure I wanted (Brainstorm for only twenty bucks!), but I'll have that voucher for next year.
I also met a cosplayer from California who had heard of my 8th Doctor, which was a mild ego-booster. My Dark Eyes cosplay got recognized by two people. That's exactly two more than I was expecting to get.
There's a couple more pictures I want to post, but in the meantime, you can see my full gallery of the weekend here!
